School Counselors. What do they do?
Much like the school nurse, school counseling services are available to ALL students not just those in crisis or with emotional or behavioral disorders. It is the school counselor's job to make sure students are happy and doing their best at school. This is not an easy task since so many factors go into students doing well--their ability to focus and pay attention, their relationships with peers and teachers, how well they can manage their impulses, and their lives outside of school. School counselors address these issues in an individual setting as well as small group counseling and classroom guidance activities.
School Counselors. How does a student see one?
Students can see the counselor in any of the following ways:
- Self-referral
- Request of the counselor
- Parent referral
- Teacher, staff, or administrative referral
