This month I am focusing on helping students enhance their academic skills! I will be going in to classrooms in both grades to speak about the importance of goal setting, time management/organization, and setting a study routine.
As a parent here are a few things you can do to help your child succeed academically this year.
Ask your child specific questions about what he/she is studying in school!
Communicate frequently with your child's teachers.
Help your child set up a study routine.
As always, if you have questions, please feel free to call or email!
As a parent here are a few things you can do to help your child succeed academically this year.
Ask your child specific questions about what he/she is studying in school!
- It's easy for your child to blow off "how was your day?" Be sure to ask about that project in social studies or what they're reading in language arts. They're growing and becoming more independent, sure, but they still want to know that you are staying on top of their school work.
Communicate frequently with your child's teachers.
- It's easy for children to get behind and not let you know about it! If you believe your child is struggling, email or call your child's teachers! Another wonderful resource available to you is ParentPortal. This allows you to check your child's progress in each class and keep track of their attendance. (*If you do not have a ParentPortal account set up, please contact our IT services at EMS!).
Help your child set up a study routine.
- Your children should start preparing for high school and beyond while they're in middle school. Helping them by creating a quiet, well-lit place in your home for them to complete homework and study for quizzes and tests will help them understand the importance of studying. Even if your child does not have a specific homework assignment to complete, he/she should spend at least 15 minutes reviewing his/her notes from the day from each class period.
