This month classroom counseling lessons focused on improving academic skills of our students! During the month of September I went into seventh and eighth grade and spoke with students about how create achievable goals, how to effectively juggle responsibilities, and tips on how to organize your things.
Here are some of the highlights from our lessons this month. Please speak with your students about these important topics!
Create specific and attainable goals for yourself.
Be well,
Ms. Gilley
Here are some of the highlights from our lessons this month. Please speak with your students about these important topics!
Create specific and attainable goals for yourself.
- Speak with your students about their goals for this academic year. During my time in their classrooms, I had every student use a New School Year Resolution template to create specific and attainable goals for themselves this year. Have your student log on to the Seventh or Eighth Grade Counseling Classroom and review their goals!
- Ask your students to describe just how difficult it is to group-juggle! To demonstrate the importance of time management, I taught select student how to manage their time by connecting time management to juggling. As a class we reviewed what types of activities they do on a regular basis and divided their activities into things they have to do and things they want to do. We emphasized that they should work on things they have to do first!
- Remind your students to check out the organization tips posted to our Google Classroom if they are struggling to find their school work or homework. During this lesson I asked students to gauge their organization ability by asking two questions (see one of the questions to the left!). We spoke about how taking three minutes at the end of the day to organize your papers and binders can save them tons of time!
Be well,
Ms. Gilley
